This year's CNY is considered livelier with Kai En (Naomi)'s presence.

She talks, walks and runs around.
What's even new was that we got to visit her new home for CNY.

Four of us seem to be over-aged for her toys.
But we had more fun than Kai En by playing with her toys.
LOL.

Went over to my maternal grandparents' place in the evening.
Same.
We preferred to stick around with our cousins of our age.
Too many young kids whom we don't really know.
LOL.

Tomorrow we'll have another round of reunion dinner but at our place.
Woooo.

Tonight, we're probably staying
Over at our cousins' place to play mahjong and PS3?

I've been out till late night for the past 7 consecutive days.
Gosh, no income and yet I'm still "running" around.

Eh. I was using the hand cream that CY gave me for Christmas.
First, the scent was so sweet that my throat and nose started to itch.
Then, it got so strong that I'm starting to feel nausea.

I guess that explains why I always stay away from berries.

feels good to be home.
but on the 1st and 2nd day of return, it was HORRIBLE.
(especially, the journey home was TORTUROUS)

It started off from my bus journey to the airport.
didn't feel quite right and bought TINY muffin for $4.90 which i couldnt even finish.
felt worse while on the plane.
at the 3rd hour of my flight, got up to the toilet but they were all pretty much occupied.

finally, i was gonna throw up and the air stewardess ran to get me a bag.
EH, there were drinks and food around me (as i was in the pantry) so i went to the lower deck.
and then i just puked into the bag.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW.

it didnt just stop here. i continued to have diarrhea till the next day.
so i drank a bottle of yakult and INSTANT RECOVERY.
no signs of nausea or diarrhea.
SOLID POOP!

anyway, i didnt have the chance to thank Jovina, Gina and JY for surprising me at the airport.
at that time i was very distracted by my tummy condition.

since Diana is sucha busy woman, our next supposed-meetup is 23rd Dec but they gonna meet up on Wednesday again!

apparently, it didnt really hit my area.
just a few minute of storm and it merely rained.

no idea why.
other areas were quite badly affected.

but i did watch how quickly the skies changed from BRIGHT, SUNNY to GLOOMY.
there were so much clouds that i felt them falling down on me.
SCARY.
the dark clouds engulfed the entire sky within seconds.
just imagine how strong the winds were.

Used to be starry nights but the weather turned crappy nowadays.

It's great having such a big piece of sky right above my head during starry nights.

Because my eyes were blinded by the constant lightnings.
It was as if my entire room has been entirely lit up.

eh, i believe most of you have seen my recent pictures on facebook.
was surprised by the comments of the picture of me and JY.
HELLO, just to clarify.
we're just friends.

the main reason why we were in the garden with wangzai was because of this....

it would be so troublesome for the soon-to-be bride and groom to bring the dog around right?
so we were responsible for bringing wangzai to the venue.
which then explained the picture: we were waiting for them, not dating please.

yeah, i've been struggling with making the decision for MONTHS.
seriously, it has been a torture.

however, i'm glad that during this struggle, it made me THINK.
think of what is really good for ME.
it may not be a wise decision but i'm sure i'm actually happy with it.
in fact, i am VERY EXCITED because it's the start of another NEW CHAPTER OF MY LIFE.

And finally, I've tried showering wangzai.

Not only I was totally drenched, I could feel my bones breaking.
It is just another strenuous activity.

Imagine Karen whom hasn't been exercising regularly doing such strenuous activity.

Of course, wangzai refused to let me go near him after that.

i've always wanted to play with candles during Mid-autumn festival.
because my parents seldom allow us to do it.
hahaha.
i will always remember how i would burn candles along the corridor, leaving wax all over the place.
yeah, i prefer candles than lanterns.

i've never really bother much about mid-autumn festival except the eating of mooncakes.
but this year, is probably my first COMPLETE celebration.
with the mooncakes and lanterns (candles) on the ACTUAL day.
i miss having the snowskin and ice cream mooncakes.

Went to Toorak to have French pastries for high tea.

Passed by a shop that had 50% off all diamonds and silver/stainless steel jewelry and accessories.

I only shop on one principle, "Love at first sight".
So this ring caught my eye and "YES! I want that!"
Original price was $85 so you shall do the math.
Hahaha.

Next up, getting a necklace chain for the ring.

Recently, I've left my blinds opened throughout the nights.
Hoping to admire the starry nights before I sleep.
UNFORTUNATELY, not very starry after all.

HOWEVER, I do realize that after 2am, there will be this ONE star shining brightly at the same spot for the past few nights.

As i lie down, I just have to tilt my head and the star will be clearly within my sight.

It's the same star that always appear after 2am, at the very same spot.

It's like someone is there, always there watching over me.
Very heartwarming ah?
I know, I would stay up to watch that star before I sleep every night.

I do know the sky is especially starry at the front of our house.
Sometimes I just wish I could sit there and admire them for as long as I like.

Yeah, too "small kid" of me to have such strong admiration for starry skies.

Btw, today we went for breakfast and shopping!
For me, I usually buy stuff that I would love at first sight.

So I bought an orange tank top and can't wait to wear it during summer and Singapore!

When I was back in singapore this year, I didn't wear a single tank top for fear of showing my flabby arms.

Went for San Churros and love their chocolate.

Didn't know that the city is so near from St Kilda, you could just swim across.

Today reminded me of the times we went to Luna Park and had picnic by the beach with the 6 other girls.

hello, I have just though of an interesting topic to blog about.
As I was planning the outline in my head, I've realized that there were quite a few experience to mention.

Well, I always thought my sleeping problems were caused by the late nights, tiring day or boring events.
But, it started since I was aware of what I was doing (like in primary school).

Exams
Firstly, I've NEVER made it past the COMPREHENSION passages. So I would never know what happened at the end. It applied to my primary and sec school times.

Apparently I can't read for a long time. Drains my energy.

Apart from that, I tend to nap during exams. Thankfully, I've managed to finish all my papers for the past two decades.

Unfortunately, my handwriting would show it all. I would be half awake and half asleep so I would write horribly, apply my liquid paper, write horribly again and correct them again.

It would go on and on till I'm wide awake.
Yeah, the teachers should return my exam transcripts.
LOL.

Classroom
Paying full attention for the entire lesson never happened unless it's a practical lesson.
I remember that I would always sleep during my biology lesson, at the back of the lab.
Sometimes it's good to be small sized.
Hahhahaa.

Meetings/seminars
Omg. 99.9% of the time.
It's as though im very allergic to PowerPoint presentations.

Even though I'm 22 years old and have attended multiple important meetings with the grown-ups, I never failed to sleep in front of everyone.

My bosses, supervisors and even ppl who didn't know me, knew me right after that.

The recent one would be the purchasing meeting, talking about money and the purchasing system. I slept right at the start of the presentation and woke up at the end of it.
(wow, my body does know how to recognize PowerPoint presentations!)

So, I'm very curious how others managed to finish listening to seminars, still understand and raise questions.

Usually happened on the train rides as i used to spend 30mins taking the train to RP.

I had to sleep even though I knew the entire cabin of commuters could see my ugly sleeping state.

Sometimes I would have violent jerks. I could literally jumped up from my seat.
Well, that used to be our joke because I would pretend nothing happened and return to sleep.
Hahaha!

Apart from that, I've only dozed off a couple of times while standing.

Also, I tend to miss my stops. Would doze off unknowingly and the next thing I knew was that I've missed my stop.

Car rides
Geez. Jacy used to scream at me whenever I fall asleep in her car.
Very stressful trying to keep myself awake at all times!

I mean who like to have people getting mad at them?
I ALWAYS try to stay awake by forcing myself to converse with her but never fail to doze off.
What's scarier is that I didn't even know I dozed off and once I could even answer jacy's questions in a sub-conscious state.

Another funny experience: Claudia's mother gave us a ride to Claudia's place. Was sitting in the middle, dozed off, jerked and went back to sleep.

It was only when we've reached her home without her mother around, then they were telling me they were trying so hard to contain their laughters.
We had a pretty good laugh at that incident.

"Best" experience?
1. I could doze off while standing. Happened a couple of times on train rides. The auntie even offered her seat. LOL.

2. During my Monash studies, I dozed off while talking to my demonstrator. Seriously?! How could I doze off during a one to one conversation?

Sleep
If I've got nothing important on, I wouldn't get out of bed until afternoon.
Even Jacy has issues with waking me up.
Do u know that I MUST have at least a day when I can sleep in late? So if I've a busy weekend, I would make it happen on a weekday.
Especially when I was back in singapore, I would try to have at least one day to rest at home and rot.

It isn't a one or two time experience in which I spent 3/4 of the day sleeping.

Nap? Whenever and wherever.
It was an issue when I was in primary sch. Wasn't allow to nap until I'm old enough to have sufficient freedom.

Always dozing off while doing my homework.
TSK.

Alright, it's really funny but the occurrence is so frequent.
I can almost say it happens 99% of the time.

Of course I'm totally aware of the adverse consequences.
I've trying very hard to fight this "sleeping monster".
It always ended up me being scolded by the others.
TSK!

Partly because I'm doing science, it always make me wanting to find out more on my problems.
Very interesting but don't know who to seek help from.

i truly believe that everyone has been "assigned" to an equal amount of good and bad luck.
and luck may come in different "sizes".

example: if i've gained something BIG, i may have upcoming bad luck which may come in small parts. so i tend to be cautious for that period of time.

I'm so proud of the idea of my packed lunch. Easy, tasty and healthy!

Marinated minced pork with chopped garlic, ginger and homegrown green chilli spreader on a layer of rice then topped with a layer of egg and STEAM!

Now i can always easily prepare packed lunch that can last for days! HAHAHAHA!

I also get to eat a chunk of meat and egg with every mouthful of rice. Shiok!

another easy one. just needed to dump everything in and sprinkle some INSTANT stock. LOL.

meat is a must! some marination and frying will do. fast and tasty.

will take some time to prepare the mee hoon kuey. so it's more about the INSTANT tom yam paste. with it, i can eat it with all kind of noodles. plus, i get to dump all the ingredients in it.

It's really weird.

Most of u would have known that I won a nintendo 3DS from a lucky draw. That was probably he best prize I've ever won so far.
So I thought I was lucky.

THEN.
A series of unlucky events happened.
Such as problems between SIA and my bank, conflicts with the receptionist (LOL I know), losing one pen for each day, losing my L plate, underpayment by the HR etc.

Started my day as early as 6am.
So... Should be able to return home at 2pm after 8hrs of work.

Theoretically, the people here only work 7.6hrs per day.

I reached home at 6pm, cooked dinner and lunch.
Cleared up, watched tv and it was already 9pm.
Showered + slack + work = 12am

Very no life.
I want a life that I can always meet up with different cliques everyday for a meal or so.

Over here, I dont have a lot of close friends.
The traveling and choice of food are kinda limited.

one good thing about it, MOST of the pets/animals were NOT kept behind the cages!
especially the farm animals were all enclosed in the same area.
i was kinda paranoid about stepping on their poop and trying to dodge the incoming animals.

guess, the flock of ducks was the only group of animals that we dared to touch!
hahaha.

then there were lots of dog breeders, mostly huge dogs.
they can get REALLY HUGE.
fortunately, they were so tamed that we could interact and take pics with them!

INTERESTINGLY, there were other exhibited PETS.
such as mice and rats WHICH WERE TOTALLY THE SAME AS THE ONES WE DID OUR RESEARCH ON.

(she started shrieking when the rats ran up to her neck! hahaha!)

there were ferrets (longer version of rats, even though they're not at all related to.)

there was a trained pig, lots of unique-looking rabbits, cats, snake, lizards and a tiny alligator/croc.

we had to pay $15 for the entrance and being singaporeans....
we took alot, alot of sample treats for Wangzai.
they can be used to feed Wangzai for months.

alright alright, i've got an interview.
at first, i wasn't caring much about it until everyone around me kept prompting me to prepare for it.
then, i was kinda freaking out about it because i've never been to one.

WELL, it ended up that the 2 laboratory heads were doing most of the talkings.
the only 2 questions they asked me were what most of us predicted and got out from the internet.
"What do you think of your honours work?"
"What do you see yourself doing in 5 years time?"

other than that, i was merely nodding at what they said.

anyway, it's just a normal day for me.
out of 22 yrs of valentine's, only 2008 one was very memorable to me.
:)

this year, i spent valentine's with the dentist and also my family, enjoying japanese buffet (again!)
i'm developing phobia for japanese food.
(btw i've typed a long post about my valentine's date with the DENTIST and the internet screwed it up.)

so in summary, i FAINTED after my routine dentist visit because i was too FREAKED OUT.

Journey to AMK took me like 1hr 30mins.

anyway, was glad to catch a movie with Taitai before the dinner.
although it was only less than an hour, it was nice spending some time alone with her, catching up.
sorry ah, i'm too used sharing every trivial matter with her.

anyway, i was very amused by the dialects they used in the movie.
a very local movie which i'll never find in Melbourne.

after the movie, met up with Gina, Mickey, Zubin, Kerus and Noor for dinner.
stayed around to chit chat before Kerus sending us home.

this time round, i was "punctual" for Teck's birthday celebration! (:

one of the best moments that i ever had with them! a night stay with them in Marina Bay Sands! WAY AWESOME. taitai even had a very chocolaty cake (advance 22nd birthday celebration for the 5 of us!)

somehow, everything seemed so perfect. with the help of the shelf and "someone", we managed to get a lot of group photos out of it. JUST THAT, the bad weather that cost us the trip up to the skypark. =/

we set off at 7am and 3/4 of the Australian population were probably awake and scrambling for shopping centers.
though the "3/4" might be a little exaggerating, the streets which were used to be packed with cars were empty.
and the carparks were 3/4 full.

hahahha, heard that the early birds for Myer will get cash rewards.
oh well, Myer opens at 5am.

anyway!
despite the crowd, i managed to shop.
all by myself.
kinda satisfied because i got to browse for stuff i like.
i even got to READ A BOOK in borders!
HAHAHHAHHAAHA.

anyway, everyone of us was really contented with the sales.
quite a number of stores had 50% sales such as........... BURBERRY!
yeap, yeap, Boxing day is a day when everything will go onto huge sales which includes prestigious brands!

oh, i've received great x'mas gifts this year tooo....

i even received a nice green bottle from taitai's sister which made taitai so jealous.

christmas never fails to excite me.
especially when i'm dying to know what my friends have bought for me.

however, getting them gifts could be a headache too.
you should really see my gift wrapping skill.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

this year's christmas is rather special.
let me list it out.

1. My housemates will be preparing a big christmas feast with appetizer, ham, seafood, finger food, desserts, fruit punch for 8 people.

2. They bought a tall christmas tree and the presents have already been placed under the tree.

3. Melbourne's weather is rather cold for a summer. it's not even hitting 25C.

4. Boxing day. They are planning to set off at 5 or 6am. Don't be shocked, it's already considered late. =x Boxing day is when every store goes into huge sale that includes LV, Gucci, Chanel and other branded retail you can think of. So you will see the entire population congesting the traffic, carparks and shopping centers. Ok, it's gonna be wild because i'll have to join them in the 6am shopping spree.

5. Once again, taitai's mother will be visiting melbourne but this time around with her sister and friend. I'm gonna join them for the Philip Island tour! if it's 11C-20C in Victoria, it's gonna be so cold over there!

alright. their flight is scheduled to reach at 640am!
need to catch some sleep!

geez. we're finally done with all the components.
COMPLETELY FREED.
(although we have other irrelevant stuff to attend to.)

although we've been called in at the very last minute (11am),
we managed to "rehearse" our 2mins speech within that few hours.
for me, my assessors were GREAT.
totally friendly and the questions they asked were mostly from my thesis as my topic is not their expertise.
(:

ANYWAY, HERE'S THE STANDARD PROTOCOL whenever there's deadline:

WEEKS before deadline: STRESSED, trying to get the work done.

DAYS before deadline: MORE STRESS, showing the draft to our supervisors.

NIGHT before deadline: RESTLESS, getting prepared.

HOURS before deadline: HELL LOTS OF STRESS, trying to make last minute changes from the supervisors.

MINUTES before deadline: NEVER BEEN THIS STRESSED, running to submit? pacing up and down to rehearse our speech? almost died from straining our brains that i thought it almost exploded.

MINUTES after deadline: NUMB, trying to convince everyone and ourselves that we're done and felt relieved.

2 HOURS after deadline: STILL NUMB, trying to celebrate by eating out.

4 HOURS after deadline: VERY NUMB, trying to occupy ourselves with facebook and surfing the net.

6 HOURS after deadline: CANNOT TAKE IT, no showering, just change of clothes and OFF TO BED TILL THE NEXT DAY.

OH WELL, it didn't work for me this time. i woke up at 12am, thinking WHAT THE HELL SHOULD I DO NOW?

it's really tiring especially when you're submitting your work.
all the pressure you faced from your SUPERVISORS, EXPERIMENTS, UNIVERSITY.
it's really about COMMITMENT.
but working?
omg, it's about venturing into a new working environment and you'll face all kinds of shit because you're BEING PAID.
and finding a job can be hard too.

the year 2010 has been a tedious year for us.
especially the past few weeks.
finally, we're back in contact with the outside world!

no more stressful sleeps
no more instant dinners
no more sunrise for me to witness
no more camping overnight in the lab

but the excitement after submitting our thesis isn't here yet.
it's always like that, you'll feel very exhausted to even feel excited after that.
wait till, you get out off bed the next day.

oh well, it's a pity we didn't take pictures with our 3 copies of thesis which is about 70 over pages, bound neatly with all the result figures.
tsk. i managed to reach at exactly 4pm!
thank goodness.

now, we've taken our showers, preparing to doze off anytime.
meantime, i'm clearing those documents on my desktop.
they're ALL OVER THE PLACE, taking up so much space.

this sounds really ridiculous but i'm gonna show my 1st draft of discussion, ONE DAY BEFORE SUBMISSION.

kinda depressing because discussion is the section that weighs the most!

i think it should be fine.

[getting a thesis done does not only mean having your energy strained and freedom robbed, but it also means having your money spent! we always eat out due to having late nights, we bought quality paper and 500 sheets may not be enough for 2 of us. (photo paper is so expensive!) We have to bind them --> apparently you can choose to bind MANUALLY with only 1 person at a time or go down to the one-and-only nearest store to bind your thesis, having to "compete" with other possible honours students. SO EXCITING.]

NEVERTHELESS, I HOPE TO GET MY SLEEP BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
i've been staying up till morning for the past 1 week or more.
staying overnight in the laboratory is no more a scary thing.
because i know that the break of dawn will come really fast.

i've done the calculations.
if i don't finish by tonight, i'm going to make last minute edits on THURSDAY.

yesterday, i was trying to stay awake the whole night since i needed to leave the house at 845am today.

yay, i've finally spent a FEW MINUTES, refreshing my cbox settings.
HOPEFULLY, no more spams.

now we're going to show our supervisor a FULL COMPLETE 1ST DRAFT, FEW DAYS BEFORE THE DEADLINE.

time passes really fast.
we spent most of the time in the lab, writing.

life has been hectic for ALL OF US.
basically, it applies to those taking honours.
DUDE, everyone is lacking of sleep.
everyday, i walk into the lab and see the students typing, typing.

eeeks, everyone's at the "Discussion" section and i'm just starting on my "Results" section.
gosh, we're left with ONE WEEK!
7 DAYS!
NOT 7 WEEKS!
the writing is NEVER ENDING.

you write, you show your supervisor, the draft comes back, you edit, you show them, it comes back then you edit (it may go on forever).
you print 3 copies (probably 90 pages for each?) and you gotta make sure they're in right order, picture quality must be satisfying then you bind your thesis.

everything by Thursday, 4pm?
OMG. i'm gonna pee in my pants.

for the past few days and for the whole of next week, i'll probably be working on it DAY AND NIGHT.
i sleep when i see the sunrise, i wake up when i see the sunrise.

we had dinner with my supervisor at St Kilda on last Friday.
a couple of us, all students.
apparently, the rest of the adults had programs and families.

THEN I SAW PATCHES OF SOIL ALL OVER MY WINDOW.

after clarifying with them, it appeared that our neighbours (whom live behind us) were not the culprits.
it turned out to be those AH LIAN KIDS!
well, we called them the ah lian kids because one of them had their hair dyed red? pink? purple? (forgotten) and they are kinda wild and rebellious.
SO THEY ARE AH LIAN KIDS.

played with our outdoor tap, threw wet soil on our windows and garage door (!!!!) and plucked the TULIPS outside our windows and smashed it onto the ground. the ah lian even once trespassed our front yard and pressed on the doorbell, asking for someone who she claimed used to be in this house.

now and then, we've been chanting "tiring tiring tiring".

oh well, life is starting to be very dreadful.

i'm struggling to get something out of every experiments i have and it's less than 2 months away from thesis.
i had to spend my entire sunday in lab.
because yesterday, we had a belated bdae celebration with Xiang Ting.

first, we had dim sum for brunch.
caught a movie "SALT" (by the way, the movie was FREAKING AWESOME! thumbs up up up!)
had our buffet dinner at some hotel. (i got to eat alot of sashimi!)
overall, it was a different experience though it comes with a PRICE.

very, very, very hefty price.

HMMMMMMMM.
JINYE IS COMING OVER IN NOVEMBER BY HIMSELF FOR A HOLIDAY.
